Chinese State Councilor, Belgian Prince Hold Talks

Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi held talks Tuesday with visiting Belgian Prince Philippe. Wu expressed her appreciation for the efforts Prince Philippe has made to promote Sino-Belgian relations and bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

She said that Belgium is a developed country and is China's sixth largest trade partner in west Europe. Wu said that the two countries are strongly complementary in industry and agriculture and have great potential for furthering bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

She noted that at the turn of the century, China will develop its western areas, which will provide new opportunities for Belgian entrepreneurs and other businesspeople.

Prince Philippe said that the Belgian government values its relations with China, and is willing to promote economic and trade cooperation. He said he will continue to make efforts in this regard.

Prince Philippe and his party are visiting China at the invitation of Wu. More than 100 Belgian industrial and commercial representatives accompanied the Prince.
