Senior Chinese Leader Meets German Visitor

Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said Tuesday that China has scored significant progress in the reform of state-owned enterprises. The success of the reform is a result of a series of policies promulgated in recent years, Wei said during his meeting with Dieter Shulte, chairman of the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB).

Wei, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), said that under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with President Jiang Zemin at the core, China has overcome the difficulties brought about by the Asia financial crisis, and has maintained sustained development of the national economy.

Shulte expressed his appreciation for the contributions China has made to the stability of the economy in Asia and in the world at large.

He said that his visit is aimed at furthering relations between the trade unions of Germany and China, and that German trade unions would like to consolidate exchanges and cooperation with their Chinese counterparts.

Shulte is here as the guest of the ACFTU.
