Chinese Foreign Minister Meets Swedish Deputy Prime Minister

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met Tuesday with visiting Deputy Prime Minister Lena Hjelm-Wallen of Sweden.

Tang said during the meeting that Sino-Swedish relations have maintained a smooth and healthy development since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 50 years ago, particularly since China initiated its reform and opening-up drive over 20 years ago.

Tang expressed his belief that Hjelm-Wallen's visit will further cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in all areas.

Hjelm-Wallen said that Sweden and China have had a close cooperative relationship since the two countries established diplomatic ties, adding that she leads the delegation, which includes business people and scholars, to China to strengthen friendly and cooperative relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.

Prior to the meeting, Tang and Hjelm-Wallen took part in a ceremony for the issuing of a commemorative envelope to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sweden.
