Beijing Reception Marks 50th Anniversary of Sino-Indonesian Diplomatic Relations

Indonesian ambassador to China Kuntara held a reception Tuesday evening to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China.

Wang Guangying, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), and Indonesian Foreign Minister Alwi Shihab attended the reception.

Kuntara said that the two countries have had cooperation in scientific, technological, educational, cultural and people-to- people areas, adding that the two sides signed a joint statement on future bilateral cooperation and a memo on the establishment of a joint commission on Monday, which provided momentum for the further development of bilateral relations.

Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Yang Wenchang said at the occasion that Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid paid a visit to China later last year, during which the leaders of the two countries reached consensus on developing Sino-Indonesian relations of mutual trust and good-neighborliness. He said he believes that through joint efforts, bilateral relations will be even better in the new century.
