China Expresses Concern Over S. Leone Situation

China Tuesday expressed great concern over the current situation in Sierra Leone and condemned violence against the United Nations staff in the west African country, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue at today's press conference.

"China is seriously concerned about the recent incidents of violence in Sierra Leone and condemns the Revolutionary United Front for attacking the United Nations mission troops as well as for continuing to hold hostage large numbers of U.N. staff and personnel of other international organizations," Zhang said in response to a relevant question.

She aired China's hope that the Revolutionary United Front should immediately release all hostages taken and strictly observe the Lome Peace Agreement.
