Chinese Scientists Bred New Strain of Anti-insect Trans-Genetic RapeChinese scientists have recently bred a new strain of anti-insect trans-genetic rape. China has the largest rape growing area and output in the world. However, insects are the major restriction to the increase of rape seed yield in China. In the middle reaches of the Yangtze River pests seriously damage the rape crop every year. Chemical pesticides will easily cause drug resistance among the worms and contaminate the environment, said experts. Tests showed that the new strain of trans-genetic rape can effectively resist worms and cause no pollution to the environment. Scientists will further study the safety and stability of the new rape strain and its influence to bees and pollination, according to Guan Chunyun. |
