Shanghai Hosts Seminar on APEC Meeting in 2001

A seminar on the thirteenth Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) meeting slated for October 2001 was held on May 8.

More than 100 officials and experts from APEC member countries attended the three-day seminar, sponsored by the Shanghai Research Institute on International Issues, the APEC Research Center under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the APEC Research Center of Nankai University in Tianjin.

The participants will discuss international influences on APEC progress and development, the problems and future of APEC, and the themes of discussion for the upcoming APEC meeting.

Senior officials of Shanghai also reported on the city's preparation work for the APEC meeting.

APEC was set up in 1989 and now has 21 members. As the most prestigious economic forum in the Asia-Pacific region, APEC is aimed at realizing joint cooperation and prosperity and development among Asia-Pacific countries.
