Hi-Tech Week - Hot Topic of the Week

High-tech has once again aroused an advent in Beijing, with the opening of the Third China International Hi-Tech Week on Monday. Scientists from home and abroad are happy that their latest research results will make their debut, and at the same time, businessmen see golden business opportunities at the fair.

The China High-Tech Industrial Week, a state-level event, is held annually in May in Beijing. During this year's five-day event, the most advanced products from home and abroad are displayed, in the fields of telecommunications, electronics, information and environmental protection.

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi says compared with previous events, this year's high-tech week has a much larger scale with more participants and high-tech products of better quality.

Liu Qi says the Hi-Tech Week serves as a window to show China's latest scientific and technological development, as well as its future development. Furthermore, it will also serve as a bridge to promote hi-tech exchange and cooperation worldwide.

Carlos Alfredo Magarinos, director-general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, says to businessmen, the International Hi-tech Week means great potential for business opportunities.

"China's entry into the WTO will provide Chinese industries with both opportunities and challenges. It will be particularly important to strengthen the competitiveness of Chinese products in local and international markets. This international hi-tech week that provide an important link for Chinese enterprises with international market, and encourages further growth of China's hi-tech industries."

Businessmen, especially those from China's western provinces, are confident that their current trip to Beijing will be fruitful, since this year' s high-tech week has arranged trade discussions for them to negotiate cooperative projects and ventures in technology and finance, as a move to support China's campaign of developing its west.
