HK, US Firms Join Hands in Tapping Chinese Telecom MarketThe Hong Kong-based CCT Telecom Holdings Ltd. and the US Lucent Technologies Co. Ltd. announced Monday that they jointly launched a strategic alliance to provide marketing, staging and integration services for value-added, integrated optical networking solutions to their customers in China. The projects to be undertaken by the coalition are expected to represent an estimated market value of several hundred million US dollars in additional sales for the two companies over the coming three years. The alliance will serve customers in China's mainland and Hong Kong, focusing on applications related to Lucent's expertise in product areas such as optical networking, dense wavelength division multiplexing and related network integration. CCT Telecom, one of the largest Internet and value-added service providers in Hong Kong, brings to the alliance its experience as an integrator and operator of data and telecommunications networks, with an emphasis on systems integration, Internet service provider services, Internet protocol applications and intelligent buildings. "We are proud to be working with Lucent, one of the leading international telecommunications companies, to develop their business in China," Chairman of CCT Telecom Clement Mak said at a media briefing Monday morning. "We look forward to growing this new business together with Lucent." CCT Telecom, with its strong connections and experience in China's market, has become the partner of choice for many foreign companies looking for a bridge into the mainland market, Mak said. Harry Bosco, president of Lucent's Optical Networking Group, said that by entering into this relationship with CCT Telecom, Lucent will be more competitively positioned to serve its customers in China. CCT Telecom established its hi-tech businesses long ago and these assets now include data centers, broadband access, multimedia content, VSAT systems, fiber optic networks and telecom product manufacturing, Bosco said. "I believe our coalition with CCT Telecom will offer both Lucent and CCT Telecom the opportunity to be more successful by dovetailing our strength, which will make our customers more successful," Bosco noted. Lucent has so far seven regional offices, eight joint ventures and three wholly-owned companies, with more than 3,500 employees in China.
