China Exports Railway Cars to Australia
Ninety-four railway cars were put on a ship Monday in Shanghai destined for Australia, opening the first page of the country's export of home-made railway cars to a developed country.
The cars are made by the Qiqihar Railway Car Factory in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, worth US$ 3.8 million.
Brad Usher, representative of the importing Australia Macrail Co., said at the ceremony that the privatization of Australia's railways, which started four years ago, has created a huge demand for upgrading railway equipment. Prices are competitive, he added. Sources said that in the next five to ten years, Australia will import 100 to 200 million US dollars of railway equipment. It is predicted that some 100 railway cars will be exported to Australia in the second half of the year.
