China Dominates Synchro Diving at Canada Cup

China won both women's and men's synchronized three-meter Saturday at the PANTENE PRO-V Canada Cup diving competion in Montreal.

The two Chinese world champions, Fu Mingxia and Guo Jingjing, scored a strong 318.60 points to take gold.

Canadian stars Megan Farrow and Kari Frank claimed silver with 266.76. Michelle Rojohn and Kim Berbari of the United States stood third at 246.36.

There were only two entries in the men's competition won by Yu Zhuocheng and Wang Tianling of China.

Synchronized diving will be an official event for the first time in Sydney Olympic Games.

In men's 10-meter platform final, Jose Guerra of Cuba won the gold medal with a perfect mark to drive his points to 661.45. He was closely followed by top Chinese diver Tian Liang, which took silver with 660.87. Another Chinese superstar Huang Qiang won bronze at 631.80.

On Women's 10-meter platform after the preliminaries and semifinals, Sang Xue of China stands first at 546.75, followed by World Cup and Grand Prix champion Li Na, also a Chinese, at 507.00. World number-two Anne Montminy of Canada is third at 492.21. The three-day competition ends Sunday with finals on men's three-meter springboard and women's 10-meter platform.
