Tibet Builds New Power Transmission Line

Construction has started on a new power transmission line in the central area of Tibet which is expected to link three cities in the central part of Tibet, including Lhasa and Xigaze.

The 145-km long and 110-kv voltage transmission line will cost 66.34 million yuan and is expected to complete at the end of November this year.

However, work will be difficult as the line is to be put up at 3,600 to 5,200 meters above sea level, builders say. Tibet plans to invest three billion yuan for power projects during the Tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-2005).

The region will invest 470 million yuan to build and upgrade energy projects this year, local sources said.
