Guangzhou Supports High-Tech Development

The capital city of south China's Guangdong Province will continue to give priority to the development of high-tech enterprises, according to Mayor Lin Shusen.

The city will build a batch of one-billion-yuan, and even ten- billion-yuan high-tech enterprise groups in the coming three to five years, the mayor said at a recent meeting.

Guangzhou has issued a series of policies to encourage the development of high-tech businesses. Statistics show that local government invested 88.6 million yuan for the sector last year. The city has now 280 high-tech enterprises. The combined output value of high-tech products reached 34 billion yuan in 1999, up 37 percent on a yearly basis, according to statistics.

A total of 21 software and biological projects received various supports from local government last year.
