Beijing Party Chief Meets International Business Leaders

Jia Qinglin, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, met with business leaders from 22 trans-national companies who are attending an international business advisory meeting with the mayor of Beijing.

Jia said that the proposals and suggestions made by the participants have played an important role in promoting the development of Beijing in various sectors since the first conference last year.

He told the advisors that the local economy grew by ten percent during the first quarter and that there are more and more overseas investments.

The Beijing government is planning the 10th five-year plan for the 2001-2005 period. These advisors will greatly help the development of Beijing in the next five years, said Jia.
