China's Pharmaceutical Industry Continues to Improve

Favorable economic conditions will continue to boost the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in China, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on May 8.

According to the results of a nationwide survey recently conducted by the NBS, the index of this industry will double the level of the first quarter by the end of June.

The health of the pharmaceutical industry has been improving continuously since the first quarter, reversing a declining trend in the previous three quarters.

The NBS predicts that the indicator of the health of the drug industry will grow to 0.25 by the end of the second quarter, compared with 0.12 in the first quarter.

According to the NBS report, 56 percent of the pharmaceutical companies in China believe that the economic situation improved in the first quarter, and they expect the economy to become even better in the second quarter. About 41 percent of them think that the economic situation will remain unchanged from April to June.

Some 60 percent of these companies expect better performances in the second quarter, and they are especially optimistic about growth prospects for orders, sales revenues, and profits.
