China Beats Uzbekistan in Junior Asia Cup Field Hockey

China trounced Uzbekistan 11-1 in a preliminary round Group B match of the Fourth Junior Men's Asia Cup field hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Host Malaysia tied with South Korea 2-2 in a Group A match later evening.

A total of 12 countries and regions are competing in the 12-day tournament which began on May 3 and ends on May 14. Other teams include Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Singapore, Iran, and Japan.

The top three teams will qualify for the Junior World Cup Finals in Hobart, Australia, next year.

In women's action on Sunday, India and Japan advanced into the semifinals as Japan defeated Thailand 14-0 while India downed Chinese Taipei 9-0.

Eight teams, divided into two groups, are taking part in the women's tournament which ends on May 13.

The other group comprised of defending champion South Korea, China, Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
