Iran Denies Involvement in Lockerbie Bombing

Iran on Sunday rejected allegations by foreign media that Iranians were involved in the Lockerbie bombing in 1988.

These futile and baseless allegations are totally unacceptable, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi was quoted by the Islamic News Agency as saying.

The spokesman was amazed over the claims made in some interviews and materials printed by some foreign media, saying the allegations were made to influence the court hearing, the report said.

The bombing of Pan American Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in December 1988 killed 259 people in the air and 11 people on the ground.

The trial of two Libyan suspects is currently going on at a special court in the Netherlands.
