China Commemorates Prestigious Literary Master

More than 300 well-known literary figures commemorated the life of Guo Moruo (1892-1978) at Guo Moruo Memorial Hall, which re-opens on May 7.

Refurbishing the memorial hall has taken a year. It now has three exhibition rooms.

Guo Pingying, curator of the memorial hall, said that they have collected lots of cultural relics, abundant historical documents and vivid pictures of Guo's life, a pioneer in modern Chinese literature, noted poet, novelist, playwright, literary critic, translator, historian and paleographer.

Coinciding with the re-opening ceremony of the hall, Sichuan Lexicographic Publishing House has published an Album of Guo Moruo 's Calligraphy.

The publishing house in Sichuan, Guo's native province, has collected more than 400 outstanding calligraphic pieces of Guo between 1926 and 1977.

Chinese critics widely regard Guo as making great contributions during his lifetime leaving behind a legacy of valuable literary and artistic works.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Guo was appointed vice premier of the State Council and chairman of the Cultural and Educational Commission.
