Women Encouraged to Join in Competition in China

Chinese woman entrepreneurs are meeting in Beijing to discuss the prospects of more women setting up businesses. At the start of a three-day seminar on May 6 morning, the NPC Vice-chairperson Peng Peiyun encouraged women to get join the competition.

China can be proud of its women. The country has nearly 20 million woman bosses who control a large amount of private property.

But most of them are in the traditional service sectors like food and clothing.

According to a recent survey, only a fifth of what is referred to as the new economy is businesses started by woman entrepreneurs.

In the first day of the Beijing meeting, the NPC Vice-chairperson Peng Peiyun, who is one of China's few high level female leaders, urged the participants to set an example for their compatriots as entrepreneurs.

She believes that greater communication among women can help build self-confidence in today's competitive business world.

More than 100 female company heads from across China exchanged ideas on how to run their own businesses at today's meeting. They will discuss the current state economic policy over the next two days.
