Li Peng Elected Vice Chairman of Millennium Speaker Conference
Li Peng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, on Saturday was elected vice chairman of the new millennium conference of world parliamentary speakers slated for October in New York.
Also elected vice chairmen of the millennium conference at the 166th session of the Council of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Amman were speakers from Russia, France, Britain, the United States, Jordan, South Africa and Brazil.
IPU Chairperson Najma Heptulla from India was named chairperson of the millennium speaker conference, which will precede a world summit in New York.
