DPRK Condemns U.S. List of Terrorism Sponsors

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday condemned the United States for listing it as a state sponsor of terrorism.

"The United States should put an immediate stop to the fruitless effort to do harm to the DPRK, " said a Foreign Ministry spokesman when asked by a reporter from the Korean Central News Agency, the country's official agency.

The U.S. State Department issued an annual report Monday on patterns of global terrorism, which listed the DPRK as one of the so called "state sponsors of terrorism." Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya and Syria are also on the list.

"The DPRK government always values justice and peace. It has always been opposed to all manners of terrorism," said the spokesman.

He also mentioned that the DPRK reappeared on the U.S. list while the two nations are set to resumes talks on improving ties.

"It is a clear indication that the U.S. policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK under the pretext of 'terrorism' still remains unchanged," he added.

Each year, Washington issues a report on global terrorism, which includes a list of what it considers as state sponsors of terrorism. And those listed will be blocked from receiving loans from international organizations.
