China Retains Asian Table Tennis Team TitlesChina on Friday reinforced its domination in table tennis after its players swept aside Chinese Taipei to retain both titles in the men's and women's team finals of the Asian Table Tennis Championships opened in Doha on May 3.China's women, who played ahead of their male counterparts, presented a smart show when they defeated the players from Chinese Taipei 3-0, even with the absence of China's Wang Nan and Li Ju, who are at present the world's top two. China's Yang Ying beat Tsui Hsiu-Li of Chinese Taipei 21-17, 21-12, while world No. 4 Sun Jin overwhelmed Xu Jing 21-11, 21-9. Lin Ling of China defeated Lu Yun-Feng with a double 21-16. Following the victory of the Chinese women, the Chinese male trio -- world No. 5 Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, ranked 8th in the world, and Yan Sen also blanked their counterparts from Chinese Taipei in three to nil. Ma Lin edged Zhuan Chi-Yuan 21-19, 21-10, Wang Liqin beat Chiang Peng-Lung 21-12, 21-18 and Yan Sen overcame Chang Yuan-Su 21-15, 13-21, 21-17. Competition for men's, women's and mixed doubles will start on Saturday and results will emerge next Sunday. The six-day tournament is scheduled to end next Monday after the men's and women's single finals. |
