Tian Liang, Fu Mingxia Take Lead at Canada Diving Competition

Tian Liang and Fu Mingxia of China took the lead Friday after semifinals at the three-day Canada Cup diving competition opened at the Claude-Robillard Centre in Montreal.

World Cup champion Tian Liang once again proved to be the world 's number one of the best divers on men's 10-meter platfrom Friday afternoon with a strong lead at 670.89 points.

The 14-year-old Canadian diving star, Alenandre Despatie, stood second with 617.19. Cuba's Jose Guerra took third at 593.91.

In women's three-meter semifinals, Chinese Olympic champion Fu Mingxia took the first place with 548.37 points. Another Chinese World Cup champion, Guo Jingjing, was second at 544.95. Eryn Bulmer of Canada stood third with 526.02.

The women's three-meter springboard final is to be held later Friday, while men's 10-meter platfrom final is scheduled for Saturday.

The PANTENE PRO-V COLOR Canada Cup diving competition is the seventh of 14 stops on the FINA Grand Prix circuit. As many as 18 countries send their divers to Montreal, including Russia, Germany and the United States.
