Learning English with Multimedia

China's first multimedia fair of the latest publications and services for foreign-language teaching and education opened May 5 at the Beijing International Convention Centre.

The exhibition is designed to meet the ever increasing demand and enthusiasm of the Chinese public to learn English, according to Zhu Yinghuang, editor-in-chief of China Daily.

"China will be a member of World Trade Organization and Beijing is bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games. This will further push the English learning drive across the country," Zhu said.

Sponsored by China Daily, China National Publishing Industry Trading Corp, Beijing Publication Import and Export Corp and MBC & Associates Ltd, the Beijing International Foreign Language Book Exhibition & Education Fair 2000 brings together major English Language Teaching publisher at home and abroad.

Among them are Pearson Education (Longman), Random House, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, MacMillan Publishers, McGraw-Hill International, Thomson Learning and Merriam-Webster.

Displays include a wide range of English language text books, dictionaries and reference books, literary readings and electronic and audio-visual products.
