Philippine Bomb Rocked City Hall Remains Closed

The City Hall of General Santos city in southern Mindanao will remain closed Thursday as police authorities continue to comb the area for bombs and explosives, Philippine News Agency (PNA) said.

City Mayor Adelbert Antonino dissuaded employees and the public from entering the city hall premises until after police authorities have cleared the place, the PNA said.

Two bombs went off at the city hall premises Wednesday, killing a driver and injuring several others.

Two other bombs exploded at the fishing port complex and at a power generation plant of the South Cotabato II Electrical Cooperative.

The fishing port explosion killed two persons and injured many others. At least 55 people were injured in the bombings.

The bombings have turned this booming city into a virtual ghost town as malls, banks, and other establishments were all closed, local residents were quoted as saying.

Antonino also confirmed that banks in the city will remain closed Thursday.

Philippine Airlines also canceled its flights Thursday to and from this city.
