At Least 250 Injured in Fire in India

At least 250 people sustained serious burn injuries when the shop of a petty diesel dealer caught fire at village Beri in North India's Uttar Pradesh, police said Thursday in New Delhi.

The condition of 12 of the injured is stated to be serious, as the fire which broke out Wednesday night spread rapidly engulfing several thatched houses.

The fire began when a drum filled with diesel at the shop exploded, police said adding the injured were shifted to four nearby hospitals.

Fire brigade from nearby cities were fighting the flames till late Wednesday night.

According to the Press Trust of India, as diesel was being sold illegally in the shop, someone threw a lighted match stick setting off the fire.
