Overseas Diesel Makers Eye Market in ChinaOverseas diesel engine makers are casting their eyes on China's huge potential market, although such production is highly restricted in China.China needs more engines to provide power for the rapid growth of its transportation, construction and automotive sectors, according to latest issue of Beijing Review. But outdated diesel engines used in the past contributed to the country's air pollution problems and irritated people in traffic. Seven foreign diesel and auto parts producers inaugurated a green diesel initiative in China about a month ago aiming to overcome the diesel engine's bad image and to promote modern engines as part of the solution. The companies, including Cummins, DaimlerChrysler, Caterpillar, Isuzu, Bosch, Dana and Volvo Trunk, advocate the adoption and strict equal enforcement of emission standards based on an engine's performance in China. As part of the initiative, the companies will host technical seminars in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou, to disseminate information about modern diesel engines and their advantages in emission reduction.
