China Enters Team Finals of Asian Table Tennis Tournaments

China is poised to retain the team titles of the Asian Table Tennis Championships after its men and women players beat their South Korean rivals in the semifinals in Doha Thursday.

China's men's victory was preceded by an easy match of the Chinese female paddlers, who defeated their South Korean counterparts 3-0 in the semifinals.

China's world's No. 4 Sun Jin beat world's No. 6 Ryu Ji Hye of South Korea 21-11, 21-10, while Sun's teammates Yang Ying and Li Nan added two points by edging Kim Moo Kyo and Lee Eun Sil 2-1 respectively.

In the men's semifinals, South Korea didn't pose much challenges to China.

China's Wan Liqin, world's No. 8 and Ma Lin, rated world's fifth best player, swept aside Kim Taek Soo and Oh Sand Eun in the first two matches.

Ma Lin sent the Chinese team into the men' finals by overwhelming Kim Taek Soo in the fourth rubber, following a loss of China's up-and-coming sensation Liu Guozheng, who was suffering pain in the waist.

China will meet Chinese Taipei in both men's and women's finals, which is due in Al Arabi Club Stadium here on Friday evening.

Chinese Taipei defeated Japan in the men's semifinals without much hard work, although Chinese Taipei's women paddlers met strong resistance from Hong Kong, China, narrowly clinching the victory 3-2.
