Taiwan's Investment in Chinese Mainland High-Tech Industry Surges

Taiwanese investment in computer and other hi-tech projects in Chinese mainland is reported to have surged fourfold to $320 million in the first quarter this year.

Relevant officials said more Taiwanese computer firms were setting up factories in Chinese mainland, attracted by its vast market and ample supply of engineers and other technicians.

The first quarter electronics investment accounted for 57 percent of overall Taiwanese investment in Chinese mainland.

Last year, electronics investment totaled $530 million, or 43 percent of overall investment in mainland, it's reported.

The Acer group, Taiwan's largest computer maker, has invested $200 million in Chinese mainland. It planned to build two more factories in the southern Guangdong Province to make computers, DVD players and spare parts.
