Macao Celebrate Int'l Labor Day

The Macao Federation of Workers' Unions hosted a grand party Monday afternoon to mark the International Labor Day and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the federation.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), was among nearly 1,000 guests present at the party.

Tong Seng Chiu, chairman of the federation, said at the party that the federation has been making persistent efforts to raise the living standard and social status of workers over the past half century.

"Macao has returned to the motherland, and workers in Macao, like their compatriots in other social sectors, have become an important part in the practice of 'Macao people governing Macao'," Tong said.

Edmund Ho noted that the SAR government is carrying out policies to increase employment, raise workers' welfare and promote professional training.

Over the past days, the federation has held various activities such as art performance, exhibition, seminar to celebrate the Labor Day.
