Experts Suggest Building Elderly Town on Island

Experts have suggested that China's island province Hainan build a town for the elderly as a strategy of developing local tourism.

Hainan, known as China's Hawaii, has fresh air, a tropical climate, and a vegetation coverage as high as 50 percent, clean coastlines, hot springs and excellent mineral water.

With these resources, China's southernmost province can attract elderly people from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and southeast Asian countries as tourists or residents, according to some fifty renowned experts at a recent seminar held in Hainan.

The life span of Hainan's residents is as high as 75.6 years. There are 108 centenarians on the 34,000 square kilometer island.

The island also has good telecommunication facilities and a cheap housing.
