Ningxia, US state of Utah Jointly Set up E-commerce PortalThe government of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China and the state government of Utah in the United States have reached consensus to jointly set up West China E-commerce Portal (Ningxia).Ningxia and Utah share very similar geographic, natural conditions with lots of desertification areas. Nevertheless, Ningxia's economy is less-developed in China whereas Utah's economy has grown at annual rate of over 8 percent in the past decade thanks to the rapid growth of IT industry, bio-engineering and medical apparatuses and equipment. In an effort to promote its development, Ningxia decided to set up e-commerce postal to develop IT technology and Web economy in cooperation with the corporations based in Utah like Compaq and Oracle. An autonomous government official in Ningxia said such cooperative efforts will enable industrial enterprises in Ningxia to be more open to the world through webs. Noting that there are currently nearly 300 computer firms in Ningxia and they can be conducive for the operation of e-commerce portal, the official said that the construction of the portal is expected to start early next month.
