Sustainable Rational Development of Energy Industry Noted in China

Sustainable rational development of conventional and renewable energy resources has been noted in China, as is reported, to meet growing energy demand in a fundamental way to speed up its economic and social construction in the 21st century.

According to China Energy Research Society, a series of strategic adjustments have been made in China's energy supply and typical is a great emphasis that has been laid on developing natural gas and electricity supply in the west to be moved east.

As to coal supply, coal mining will be shifted to the west and as an important part central to the effort is the building of Shenfu-Dongsheng coal fields bordering on Shaanxi Province and Inter Mongolia Autonomous Region, with an outlet going to be provided. Power generation will focus on construction of layered hydropower stations in river valleys and power stations near coal mines, while priorities are given to oil and gas exploration in western China and offshore areas in developing oil production.

In the new century, a policy synchronizing energy exploitation with energy saving will be adopted in China. Oil industry, gas production, nuclear power and other new and renewable types of energy sources, based on the development of electricity and coal production be vigorously developed.

Experts from China Energy Research Society say natural gas tapping in early 21st century will be concentrated in Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Xingjiang. Daqing, Shengli and Xinjiang oilfields alongside offshore oilfields will serve as major oil production bases to provide most of oil supply in China. Shanxi, Shaanxi, Heilongjiang, Guizhou and Inner Mongolia will be its major coal suppliers and the upper reaches of the Yellow River and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will be bases for developing hydropower production.

Other energy resources like terrestrial heat, solar, tide, wind energy will also be exploited in accordance with actual conditions in different regions in a bid to change China's energy consumption structure and ensure a harmonious development of the country's energy production with its national economy and environment.
