China Protests Right-Wing Japanese Landing on Diaoyu IslandsChina is indignant over Japanese right-wing activists violating China's territorial sovereignty by once again illegally setting foot on the Diaoyu Islands, which are an integral part of China.A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman made this remark Saturday in reply to a report that members of the Japan Youth League, a Japanese right-wing group, once again illegally landed on the Diaoyu Islands and established a so-called shrine there on April 20. Pointing to the fact that the Diaoyu Islands and its adjacent islets have been an integral part of China since ancient times, the spokesman added that China also strongly resents the Japanese government's disregard of the consensus reached by the two countries, and its irresponsibility in taking a laissez-faire attitude toward the misdeeds of the Japanese right-wing activists. He said that China has made clear its solemn stance to Japan through diplomatic channels, adding, "We strongly demand that Japan honor its commitment, restrict the ring-wing activists, and prevent similar incidents from recurring." As to whether or not the ring-wing activists established the so-called shrine on the Diaoyu Islands, according to the spokesman, the Japanese side said this needs to be determined. China has urged Japan to make a prompt investigation into the incident, and give an explanation in a responsible manner, the spokesman added. |
