Famed Film Director Roots for Beijing 2008 Olympic Bid

Chinese film director Zhang Yimou has thrown his weight behind Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games by taking charge of the television business for the bidding campaign.

Zhang, 49, considered as one of China's few world-class directors, said Friday that he has accepted being the director- general of the television programs for the bid.

"I officially accepted the bid organizing committee' offer in February. I think the Olympic bid is a matter of all Chinese people and it is of great significance," Zhang said.
