Inter-University Online Library MulledWith a CALIS system put into operation, inter-university documentary exchanges between libraries amounting to as many as one hundred will be conducted in May to bring into being a documentary information sharing system under a complete cyber network environment.Wu Zhenjiang, associate curator of Beijing University Library pointed out at a CALIS meeting that an online information resource sharing system is to be built to provide abundant documentary information resources. By the end of the year, with a documentary information service system formed, there will be more than one hundred types of databanks online. Via CALIS there will be 100 searchers can search online at the same time. CALIS, as one of two public service systems as project "211" approved by the State Council in 1996, is a system formed of libraries in 61 universities and will has its management center in Beijing University Library. Sources say CALIS will change the mode of only one library in one university, it will help China to step onto the road of resource sharing.
