Shenzhen and HK Cooperate to Build World-Class Port
Li Decheng, executive deputy mayor of Shenzhen, said recently that Shenzhen will cooperate with Hong Kong to build a world-class port.
Li made these remarks at the time when China Ocean Shipping(Group) Company (COSCO) opened up two new international air routes which take Yantian Port as the base. So far, 22 international airline companies have opened up 27 international air routes in Yantian Port.
Li disclosed that Shenzhen's container handling capacity maintained a good momentum of growth in the first quarter of this year, estimated to be 3.8 million to 4 million standard containers. He said The handling capacity of Shenzhen has ranked 11th in the world and will usher in a period of greater development in the coming five years. Shenzhen is willing to cooperate with Hong Kong to build a world-class port.
It is said that Yantian Port, jointly developed by Shenzhen and the famous HK entrepreneur Li Ka-shing, has become the main booster to the growth of container handling capacity.
