Top Lawmakers Urged Study of Int'l LawChina's top legislators have been urged to learn about international law since they are in a position to approve or cancel the country's treaties and important agreements with foreign nations.Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the call Saturday during a lecture on international laws and treaties. This was the 14th in a series of lecture on law held by the Ninth NPC Standing Committee. International law plays an increasingly important role in international affairs in a time of rapid development in the world and increasing of contacts and exchanges among nations, Li said. As an underdeveloped socialist country, China should be adept at using international law to handle international affairs and relations, he said. Li stressed that China is a country that abides by its pledges and obeys the international conventions it has signed up. He urged more intense study of international law and greater efforts to successfully handle the relationship between domestic laws and international by giving great weight to China's actual situation when considering legislation.
