300,000 Shanghainese to Travel During May Day Holiday

More than 300,000 Shanghainese will spend their weeklong International Labor Day holiday traveling, according to the city's tourism and communication departments.

With the country's development of its vast western regions, a growing number of Shanghainese want to travel to these areas. Some travel agencies have already organized itineraries to Ningxia, Sichuan, Tibet and Shanxi, all in the west.

The Shanghai Railway Bureau has added temporary trains to the nearby cities of Wuxi, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Ningbo, as well as special trains to scenic spots of Huangshan, Yandang and Wuyi mountains. The special trains will also facilitate travelers to Hong Kong and Macao.

Meanwhile, Shanghai is preparing to receive domestic and overseas tourists. Folk temple fairs will be held and visitors can also enjoy cultural and entertainment programs, such as fashion shows, circus acts and martial art demonstrations.
