Senior CPC Leader Meets Gabonese Democratic Party Leader

Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Simplice Guedet Manzela Saturday morning, general secretary of the Democratic Party of Gabon.

Wei told the Gabonese guessts that China and Gabon, although geographically far away, have had fruitful results in their bilateral cooperation in various areas since they established diplomatic relations in 1974.

China is satisfied with the current bilateral relations. President El Hadj Omar Bongo of Gabon has visited China eight times and made great contributions to the bilateral relations, Wei noted.

China appreciates the Gabonese government for its sticking to the one-China principle and its support to China in the human rights issue, Wei said. He added that China sincerely hopes that relations with Gabon will continue in the new century.

On party-to-party relations, Wei said that the CPC pays great attention to its ties with the Democratic Party of Gabon. To increase friendly contacts between the two parties and to learn from each other in the management of party affairs will lead to better understanding and friendship.

Manzela conveyed best regards to Chinese President Jiang Zemin and other Chinese leaders on behalf of President Bongo. Founder of the democratic party of Gabon, the president himself pays great attention to its relations with the CPC, he said.

The president thinks that party-to-party relations are important part of state-to-state relations, and the Gabonese side is satisfied with the progress of bilateral friendly relations.

The general secretary said that he believes the upcoming ministerial-level China-Africa Forum in Beijing will help promote Africa-China relations and the establishment of a new international economic order.
