Hotline Helps Deal with Complaint Against PoliceMore than 26,000 complaints against policemen have been registered by China's police watchdog in the first 50 days since a hotline was used by Chinese police to handle complaints from the public to improve their services.Sun Mingshan, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Security, told reporters Friday that 3,348 complaints, or 13 percent of the total, are justified. Most of the complaints center on abuse of power, improper use of police cars and improper behavior. On March 1 this year police registered a special telephone number -- 110 -- for the general public to voice their complaints about policeman in efforts to improve the 1.5 million policemen's performance in law enforcement. The 110 number was first introduced in the 1950s in China by the police to accept reports from the public for emergency help. Some 3,000 policemen will be fired each year if they do not improve their performance, according to a decision announced last February by the ministry.
