The Software Intellectual Property (IP) Protection Seminar, attended by leaders and experts from the State Copyright Administration, Shanghai Copyright Bureau, Shanghai Court, China Software Union and Commercial Software Union, was held in Shanghai on April 27.
Relevant leaders, experts and media discussed the issues of common concern, such as software IP protection, development of the network economy, participation in the international economic competition and enhancement of public awareness of the software copyright.
Xu Chao, deputy director of the State Copyright Administration, gave four reasons for IP protection at the seminar. First, protecting the author. Second, protecting the interests of investors. Third, standardizing market order. And fourth, preventing the loss of State tax revenue. Xu also disclosed that in the face of the development of the network economy, China is considering revising the Copyright Law. Before doing this, the State Copyright Administration is drawing up a regulation on the Internet to differentiate lawful rights and protect the IP of the parties concerned.
