"Government Is Savior of Victims in Disaster Areas"

It is reported that people in the disaster area of Yi'gong, Tibet Autonomic Region have been shifted to safe belts in an orderly way under the organization of anti-disaster commanders.

Large amounts of relief materials have been transported to the frontline of the disaster area and distributed to the victims. When cadres sent tea and grains to Qoi Zhima's home in Gyailha Village of Yi'gong Township, the old man grasped the cadre's hand firmly and said, "the government is our savior".

The large-scale landslide occurred this time in Zhamu Nonggou led to the traffic suspension between Yi'gong Tea Plantation and the outside world, and 4,000 people were held up there. The disaster had drawn the great attention of the Party Central Committee, the State Council and the authorities of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Vice-premier Wen Jiabao, State Councilors Luo Gan and Wang Zhongyu gave important instructions on the disaster-relief work.

Zhamu Nonggou is a landslide frequently-occurring region in history. This region witnessed a huge landslide affecting hundreds of millions of cubic meters in the early years of this century. The 80-year-old man Qoi Zhima said, "My father used to tell me that many people died at that time when disaster hit the region, among whom were my relatives. However, no government official of old Tibet had come to inquire about the situation there. Now the people's government has shown concern for and taken care of us common people. The old and new societies are indeed two different worlds."
