Chinese Procuratorate to Target Misuse of Administrative Power

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Thursday that people's procuratorates at various levels will focus their investigation and prosecution on four categories of cases with the misuse of administrative power.

The first category involves dereliction of duty and abuse of power by officials above the county level.

Cases involving the practice of favoritism, perverting the law, extorting confessions by torture and unlawful detention by judicial functionary fall into the second category.

The third category of cases include the misuse of administrative power and irregularities of by law enforcement authorities, especially those who responsible for economic order and security.

The violation of legal and democratic rights and interests of citizens, especially illegal custody of delegates to the people's congress, is the fourth category.

The SPP will also focus on cases are harmful to reforms in state-owned enterprises and the development of China's western regions. These cases include the misuse of administrative power to interfere with the reform in state-owned enterprises and other illegal activities which harm the interests of the state and the people.

The crackdown on these cases will help build a diligent and clean government and promote the development of a market economy with socialist characteristics, the SPP said.
