"Beijing News Media Forest" Being Built in China's Hebei

More than 100 journalists in Beijing including 7 Russian, Vietnamese and Japanese resident newsmen Wednesday morning turned up for "Beijing News Media Forest" tree planting in Fengning County, Hebei Province.

Fengning County is the source head of Chao River, one of the two water resources of Beijing's Miyun Reservoir. However, there are as many as 1000 squ. km of sands, near at the source head of Chao River, bringing scourge as the causeway of sandstorms from Inner Mongolia.

A serious situation facing Beijing is that flow sand dunes are moving at a yearly 3.5 km near and close at the nearest point in Huairou County merely 18km to Beijing.

Therefore, the plan to construct the "Beijing News Media Forest" has won wide support among journalists in Beijing soon after it is initiated. So far, news institutions and newsmen have made a donation of 200 thousand yuan in Beijing. Tree planting over 80% of the 1000-mu (1 hectare equals 15 mu) "Beijing News Media Forest" has been completed and trees are now being planted over the remaining 200 mu of the forest land.
