Child Traffickers Executed in China

The Supreme People's Court announced on April 26 that three provincial courts have given death penalties of four women and child traffickers and sentenced 18 others to life or fixed-term imprisonment.

The death warrants were carried out in the home provinces of the four women and the child traffickers.

Ge Lanzhen and Xu Ruzhen of a 16-member gang from southwest China's Yunnan Province who smuggled 26 children and one of them died in the process of smuggling, were sentenced to death and had all their property confiscated, while another member of the group, Guo Haiyu, was sentenced to life imprisonment, deprived of all political rights.

Zheng Shifa, from Datong City, in north China's Shanxi Province, was given the death penalty and deprived of all his property for trafficking 12 women and raping two of them.

Sun Zhendong, from east China's Jiangsu Province, was sentenced to death and had all his property confiscated for smuggling 11 women. Two others have been sentenced and fined for their participation in Sun Zhendong's criminal activities.

Liu Jiachen, a vice president of the Supreme People's Court, pledged to severely punish child traffickers according to law.
