Nokia to Deliver First Commercial WAP Solution in China

Nokia signed its first contract with the Jilin Mobile Communication Company (Jilin MCC) Thursday offering a commercial wireless application protocol (WAP) solution.

Nokia have begun to provide Jilin MCC, based in northeast China's Jilin province, the Nokia Artus Messaging Platform, including both WAP gateway and message modules, according to Malcolm Arnold, vice president of the system business department under Nokia(China) Investment Co..

Jilin MCC can offer mobile internet services to all GSM users who have phones that support short messages, even if they don't have WAP-enabled phones.

Jilin MCC has one million subscribers and operates GSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks in Jilin Province.

"Nokia is pleased to work with Jilin MCC as the first operator in China to take Nokia's commercial WAP solution, which will further strength our commitment to working with Chinese Business," Arnold said.
