China Vows to Be World's Information Tech Power

China has set its target to become on its own a world's information technology power within a decade's time in the future, according to sources from the on-going National Information Tech Innovation Working Conference called in Shanghai Wednesday.

By year 2010, China will by its possession of intellectual property rights in major information technologies take a pivotal place among world information tech powers and will by its technology advances be at a level to match the developed countries, according to targets set by the gathering.

An unidentified attendee present at the conference was quoted as saying that China will turn itself into an information stronghold and a major exporter of information technologies known to the world.
