Police Seeks Tips in Contraband FightChina's anti-smuggling police urged the public to provide them with tips if they suspect someone is dealing in contraband, according to report of China Daily.And they should also not be afraid of telling authorities of officers in the force, established last year to handle organized smuggling and major cases, said Lu Zhiqiang, director of the Smuggling Cases Investigation Bureau under the Customs General Administration. People can file reports or charges against investigators suspected of misconduct, bureau officials said. For example, when a person is detained for interrogation by the bureau and is physically abused or has his or her property destroyed, that person may seek compensation under existing laws. Also, bureau investigators are required to file case reports after interrogations. If reports are not filed, the person interrogated may seek to have the investigator disciplined. Lu called on his staffers to raise their "awareness of being public servants and to abandon any thought of being privileged." To prevent corruption by anti-smuggling police, a special hotline with two numbers - 010-65194023 and 65222882 - have been established. Under State law, people who reporting suspected smuggling cases can be rewarded with as much as 10 per cent of the value of contraband intercepted as a result of their tips.
