Besides one part of the hi-tech week to be held in the city on May 8-12, the activities are also expected to popularize basic scientific knowledge among the Chinese citizens, and children in particular, and to familiarize them with the country's hi-tech progress.

Those with interest in meteorology and electronics will be satisfied by either watching, studying, touching or even self experience.

The activities is to be kept after the ending of the hi-tech week, said the organizers.

It is predicted that 100,000 home visitors and nearly 5,000 foreigners will come to Beijing during the hi-tech week, with tourism revenue estimated at 5.45 million US dollars, as against some 82,000 visitors and around 2.96 million US dollars in tourism revenue respectively last year.
